BEGINNER RIDES
All rides begin at Westpark Oval, Burnie unless otherwise stated
Cam Road Loop
10 km, flat elevation in bike lane.
- head west from Westpark Oval on bike path
- cross at traffic lights at end of bike path to enter bike lane on road heading west
- turn left into Besser Cres after service station
- follow road to right at T-intersection (road still called Besser Crescent)
- turn right at t-intersection into East Cam Rd
- turn right at traffic lights into Bass Hwy, return bike lane to return to Westpark via bike path
Purple Pig Loop
So named because the factory at the turn point used to have a purple pig painted on it.
17 km, flat elevation in bike lanes.
- extend the above loop by not turning into Besser Crescent but continue over Cam River Bridge turning into McKays Rd (industrial estate turnoff near Austins, Powells, Purple Pig and St Vinneys)
- turn first left into Fairlands Drive (Drop into Austins as you go by for all your camping / outdoor needs)
- turn right back onto Bass Hwy to return to Westpark Oval
Doctors Rocks Loop
Named after the rocky outcrop in the sea at the turning point.
23 km, flat elevation in bike lane beside highway
- extend the above loop by riding on to Doctor's Rocks
-pass the rocky outcrop and turn right into the Wynyard turn-off (be wary of traffic as you cross the road)
- hand a U-turn in the Wynyard turnoff to return to Westpark Oval
Fossil Bluff Loop
40 km return, slight climb into Fossil Bluff.
- extend the above loop by continuing into Wynyard along the coastal road (Old Bass Hwy)
- continue along Old Bass Hwy which becomes Goldie St (the main street in Wynyard)
- turn right at the third roundabout into Saunders St (following the turn off signs to Fossil Bluff)
- follow Saunders St as it winds around, eventually going over the river bridge
- turn right immediately after the bridge into Golf Links Road (this is where you hit the very gentle climb, but you do get a run up)
-turn left into Freestone Crescent and enjoy the beach view you stumble across. Its worth getting off your bike and heading to the beach to find a few fossils.
- continue around Freestone Crescent until you intersect with Golf Links Road again, turn left (its one way)
- hang a U-turn when you can
- backtrack your route to return to Wynyard and on to Westpark, Burnie.

INTERMEDIATE RIDES
Penguin Loop
Approx 35 km return, gentle hills. Scenic coastal ride travelling in bike lane beside highway and then country coastal road.
- head east from Westpark Oval. (You can ride on the Bass Hwy ) or turn right onto the bike path travelling past the Skate Park and onto the carpark
-pass the Penguin Viewing Centre on your left (make a note to come back at dusk in spring / summer to observe our cute locals) and ride onto the board walk (watch for pedestrians)
-ride passed the Surf Club, entering onto Marine Terrace and riding east (enjoy the view of the Port / Toll boat)
-continue along Marine Terrace, past the train station towards the pedestrian overpass ahead, turn right into the carpark after the traffic island, make your way onto the pedestrian overpass
- follow the bike path until you need to enter onto the Bass Hwy in the bike lane, head east
- travel along the Bass Hwy until you reach the Sulphur Creek round-about (note Crusty's Bakery as you pass it on the right side of the road at Wivenhoe because you'll need to have a coffee here on your return)
-turn left at the roundabout into Preservation Road following the signs to Sulphur Creek
-follow Preservation Road, enjoying the scenic views, undulations and gentle climbs as you travel through Sulphur Creek and Preservation Bay
-turn left onto Main Rd to enter the gorgeous, quaint township of Penguin (Take in the beautiful beach, Giant Penguin and lovely shops)
-hang a U-turn to return to Westpark, Burnie via a stop-off at Crusty's. (They do a great Chicken Mornay Pie and Apple Scroll)
Ulverstone Loop
Extend the above loop distance to 56 km return by riding into Ulverstone. Gentle hills, sections of road without bike lane. Scenic coastal roads
- extend the above loop by continuing through Penguin on Main Road
-follow this road as it winds around the coast towards Ulverstone, taking in the views at The Three Sisters Lookout
-continue on this road to a t-intersection, veering left into South Road near the hardware store
-ride over the river bridge on South Road, turning left at the round-about at the end opposite McDonalds
-hand a quick right into Reibey Street (the main shopping area in Ulverstone)
-take in the shops (you'll find another Crusty's Bakery here) before hanging a U-turn and returning to Burnie
Penguin via Creamery Road Loop
This adds some more difficult climbs into the route and increases your distance.
- follow the Penguin Loop directions into Sulphur Creek
- turn right midway through the township of Sulphur Creek into Creamery Road
- continue along Creamery Road enjoying rolling hills and countryside, the road does a slight left turn becoming Pine Road and heading towards Penguin
- after you ride across the highway overpass, turn left into Deviation Road. Enjoy the windy descent to the intersection with Main Road
- turn right into Main Road and a quick left at the lights into Preservation Drive (this brings you back to Sulphur Creek and then back to Burnie)

- head west from Westpark Oval on bike path
- cross at traffic lights at end of bike path to enter bike lane on road heading west

INTERMEDIATE RIDES
Penguin Loop
